Proofreading : £10 per 1000 words

This is most useful when you have a final draft prepared and just need human eyes on it before sending it into the world.

Proofreading includes a comprehensive check for typing errors, spelling, inconsistencies, and basic grammar. (While most word processing software offers a similar function it can often make mistakes relating to tone or nuance, particularly in fiction writing where the use of literary devices may confuse the programming!)

Copyediting: £25 per 1000 words

This is useful after developmental editing (whether helped by professional services, or completed throughout the author's own drafting stages).

Copyediting seeks to ensure the wiriting is clear and achieves its purpose - this may involve correcting or querying anything that seems to be an error (including misspelled names, misused words, numbers that don’t add up, incomplete references and inconsistent arguments). It may also include suggesting ways to reduce the length of a text, use the available space better, or the best way to add new material to the existing text. More info can be found here: https://www.ciep.uk/resource/what-is-copyediting.html

Developmental Editing : £40 per 1000 words

This is useful in the early draft stages, to check that the overall structure, flow and readability is tailored to your audience and purpose (whether to inform, persuade or entertain the reader).

This may include checking language is appropriate to the readership, fictional character arcs or non-fiction arguments are logical and well-supported by the text, and/or the title question (in the case of formal essay writing) is answered effectively.
